Vertical integration

A vertically integrated model means we can better manage the poultry production process from start to finish; this includes breeding and hatching our chickens, producing feed, processing, and supplying fresh poultry and value-added products.

Feedmilling

The chickens we grow are fed a nutrient-rich, well-balanced diet carefully formulated by our expert nutritionists.

We source feed directly from company-owned and trusted and accredited feedmills within Australia, so we know exactly what our chickens are being fed.

The feed consists of a number of ingredients including cereal grains such as wheat, sorghum, barley and grain legumes and protein meals such as soybean meal and canola meal, supplemented by vitamins, minerals and amino acids to achieve optimum health and well-being.

Breeder Farms

We have a number of breeder farms located around Australia with a presence in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia.

To ensure overall welfare and optimal performance, our breeding stock is monitored closely by professionals in nutrition, veterinary medicine, and poultry husbandry. Feeding, housing conditions, lighting, and health are all monitored closely on a daily basis to ensure birds are well taken care of.

In general, our birds can lay their first eggs as early as 23 weeks of age. Egg production happens a bit later for turkeys which take more time to fully mature. Production is ongoing until approximately 65 weeks of age. During this period the fertilized eggs are laid continually and collected either by hand or through an automated egg collection system.

Hatcheries

Each week, fertilized eggs come in and hatchlings head out to farms from our various hatcheries located in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia.

Hatcheries are carefully monitored 24 hours a day for optimum environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and airflow to ensure the hatching process goes as smoothly as possible.

At Baiada, we hatch three different types of bird: chickens which lay table eggs; chickens for meat production; and turkeys for turkey meat production.

Broiler Farms

Broiler Farms are where chickens are grown for the purpose of producing poultry meat. Baiada has both barn and free range broiler farms. In order to meet the demand across Australia, we have company-owned and operated farms as well as independent contract farms in the following states: New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia.

The welfare of our chickens is a priority for our business and they are raised by passionate farmers from hatchlings until they are ready to be processed. Throughout the entire process, our birds are monitored by veterinarians, nutritionists, and specialised technical personnel to ensure their wellbeing.

Processing Plant

We operate highly automated, technologically advanced processing plants all over Australia, including Beresfield, Tamworth and Hanwood in New South Wales, Adelaide in South Australia, Osborne Park in Western Australia, and Mareeba in Queensland.

From the time our chickens leave the processing plant to the time it’s delivered to our customers, we are able to monitor and report on the exact temperature of our product.

Our range of chicken and turkey products include primary products, semi-prepared meals and snacks, and ready-to-eat offerings.

Further Processing Plant

Here’s a glimpse of our state of the art further processing plant in Laverton, Vic. This plant along with our others in NSW has helped enhance capacity to produce cooked and crumbed products for the retail freezers as well as major quick service restaurants.

Protein Recovery Plant

Waste minimisation is a core focus across our entire business. Protein recovery is an important part of our process and plays a major role in providing essential products for a variety of uses. Approximately 75% of our chickens’ weight is sold as meat products. The remaining 25%, including bones, feathers and intestines, are recycled into by-products, such as high protein pet food. This process is known as ‘rendering’. Our eco-friendly, technologically advanced Oakburn rendering plants in Tamworth and Griffith are some of the best in the country, combining energy efficiency and sustainability.
